Paint - Scuba Fins Project
Fins are very important gears when it comes to diving. It gives strength to swim through currents and balance buoyancy. Sometimes it could be confusing to identify people with plain fins, which led me to the idea of customized decorative fins!! On the left is three thresher sharks swimming in a cleaning station full of corals. On the right is a whale shark cruising through the bubbles. Two quick sketches before making the drawing on the fins. I am extremely happy of the result and cannot wait to try out in my next dive.
After lots of research and studying of the approach, below is what I’ve learnt:
I. I explored a new paint, Posca 0.7mm - a water-based acrylics market on a pair of plastic-rubber scuba fins. I sanded it before the paint, and finished with a spray of sealing to protect the surface.
II. I have also explored the stippling technique, a common scientific illustration method to create shading, texture, and tone.
